In honour of International Women’s Day, which takes place on March 8th this year, we thought we’d highlight the work of women designers from around the world featured on Modern Karibou.

FLUF founders, Nathalie Butterfield and Terra Kushner, shared vision to elevate one of the unsung details of the home, the lowly pillow, led them to create FLUF. FLUF’s fabrics are all hand-printed locally in small runs on chemical-free hemp and organic cotton, using water-based, biodegradable dyes.

Swedish founder, Anki Spets, started Area in 1990 to offer informal yet sophisticated products for the home and continue the Scandinavian tradition of good design for everyday. The carefully chosen colours, one-of-a-kind patterns and subtle details are what make each area item distinct and unique. All of their products are made from natural fibres.

Designer and mother of three, Liz Clay, pushes the boundary of children's room décor by providing art that sparks imagination and stimulates visual development. She believes little eyes need to see chunky paint, pure pigment and clean design and her Canadian company, Cici Art Factory, specializes in original art for kids' rooms.

Eeva-liisa, Avalisa founder Lisa Masterson’s grandmother, grew up in Finland and has been the greatest influence in Lisa’s creativity. Lisa Masterson’s unique sense of style is sometimes calming and sometimes invigorating, but always captivating. Avalisa designs and creates quality modern wall art and hand-tufted New Zealand wool rugs.

ferm LIVING’s founder Trine Andersen’s wall art blends imaginative forms and offbeat subjects with a modern yet classic take. With each design, she seeks to dress walls and finish spaces with character and style.

Designed to bring you continuous comfort with timeless beauty and elegant functionality, each piece is made with high quality, organic or sustainable fibres that are healthier for the environments they’re grown in and the homes they become a part of.

In a mission to rid windows of net curtain, London-based designer Emma Jeffs combines the chemistry of synthetics with the print stylings of a master artist to create stunning adhesive films for windows.

Studio 7 A.M.® was founded in Paris by leading French designer Rebecca Campora. Their premise? To design and produce the best available products for babies and children, always keeping the young clients in mind, while never forgetting the rigorous demands of today's parents.

Natalie Cacace owns and operates Forwalls Decals, which specialises in unique, removable wall art for the modern home or office. Like many women today, she also juggles the needs of her three boys, a part-time job as a teacher and her husband’s café business. She states: “I believe that with a bit of perseverance and confidence in what you are doing, you can achieve what you want in life.”

Joanna Notkin is founder and head designer of LoooLo Textiles. Based in Montreal, she has been recognized as an important up-and-coming designer and leader in the field of sustainable textiles. LoooLo Textiles uses high quality, certified organic materials as the basis for all of their products and they use Canadian suppliers whenever they can. They believe that doing their part for the planet means making the best environmental choice at every stage.
