Now this isn’t about the movie, but it is about a transformation and I thought the title might grab your attention! A husband was in touch with Modern Karibou recently, in search of a makeup table (for his wife) that would be located in the master bedroom. Now if that isn't romance, I don't know what is!
He wanted to know if and how the LAX Wall Mounted Desk by MASHstudios could function as a makeup table. He asked for our thoughts and suggestions to make it look and feel like a makeup table and not so much like a desk.
LAX Wall Mounted Desk by MASHstudios
This got me excited about the possibilities and he may have gotten more ‘thoughts and suggestions’ than he bargained for.
Here’s an excerpt of my response:
‘’I think using the LAX Wall Mounted Desk as a makeup table is a great idea - addding a modern twist to a traditional piece of furniture. The three cubbies are very convenient for quick stowing and access. The fact that it is wallmounted will also let you install it at the ideal height for your wife. A makeup area usually consists of these essential elements: table, mirror, seating and lighting (and makeup and other beauty products of course!). Therefore, to help make the LAX Desk look like a makeup table could be as simple as adding a mirror and a chair.
While you may only be interested in a table for now, your question got my creative juices flowing so I thought I’d provide some additional suggestions… which you could, of course, add on later as your budget allows… or you may already have similar items in your house that you could repurpose.
MASHstudios’ new walnut chair would be a natural choice; its clean lines and English walnut construction would blend seamlessly with the desk’s walnut. It can be viewed here. They are normally sold in sets of two, but we might be able to arrange something with MASHstudios.
I think the combination (see below) of the LAX Wall Mounted Desk with the OFFI Skool Chair would be another great option – details can be viewed here. It’s available in a white finish that would go beautifully with the white powder coated sliding door on the desk. Its curvy shape is also a bit more feminine.
For the mirror, I would suggest having two. The first could be a large rectangular mirror, wall mounted horizontally (same width as the desk – 58’’). You could have one custom cut to your specifications at your local hardware store. The second would be a cosmetic mirror which is essential for applying makeup. Modern Karibou features two such mirrors by Blomus: the NEXIO Cosmetic Mirror, which is made of chrome plated steel and the PRIMO Cosmetic Mirror, which is made of matt stainless steel and features a magnifying mirror.
Great lighting is also crucial for a makeup table. Not knowing how your master bedroom is set up, it’s a bit difficult to make recommendations, but wall-mounted sconces or overhead lighting could be interesting options.’’
Of course, I could have gone on and on, but I didn’t want to overwhelm this well-intentionned husband. Whatever his decision, I'm sure his wife will be one happy woman!
