Modern Karibou 1st Year Anniversary and Giveaway!

Modern Karibou was born one year ago and we have lots of things to celebrate!  A very successful year of bringing you some of today’s best talent in modern furniture and home accessories, updates to our online store which include the long-awaited gift registry and gift cards.  Most importantly, we want to thank our customers and the design community for their great support so far.  We thought: what better way to show our appreciation than with Modern Karibou’s first giveaway!  The prize? DIY Savviness

Just a quick post to share some things I found today while looking for something else, which I am still looking for...

 
Love this DIY, so simple and affordable!  Just the kind of project I have been wanting to do for overhead lighting in my home office. 

This post led me to the hashai blog.  Love AB Chao's posts, her sense of humor, and her home.  What can I say, some people are just naturally talented! 

Check out her bedroom makeover.  I am feeling a bit of window-envy.  She was the Readers’ Choice Award Winner in the All the Best Bedroom Contest.  No surprises there!  I tend to go for all white walls, but the rich grey colour is so sumptuous I might just reconsider the white I had planned for my living room.

 

Her daughter is one lucky teen!  I wish my own son would let me enter his dungeon and bring in a bit of light.

 
Her kitchen/dining room makeover is wonderful as well.  From the painted floors and yellow accents in the kitchen to the plate installation on the wall in the dining room...  Great ideas to steal! 

 
  
Apparently, she got photography and styling help from a Canadian friend - Lori Andrews - another great and unexpected find!

HiLo Chair Spotted in France!

A while back, Agathe from France contacted us to order the HiLo Chair by Age Design.  Proof once again that Canadian design not only has appeal in our own backyard, but also overseas.

She sent an email aknowledging receipt of her order, and to my surprise and great delight, she had attached photos of her young daughter comfortably seated in the high chair.

Like all children, she seems to take just as much pleasure from the box as from its contents.

When I thanked Agathe for these images, she offered to send more of the HiLo Chair in her home.  As you’ll see, it looks like it naturally belongs in this warm ‘little nest’ (as the homeowner calls it), located in Northern France.  These photos are extracts from their daily life, whose authenticity makes these images all the more charming.  But ultimately, it’s the adorable little girl who draws the most ‘oooooohhhh & aaaaahhhhh’s’. 

I simply could not pick my favourites, therefore have decided to post them all.  Thank you Agathe for inviting us into your home!

Vûrv Design's New Veneer: American Black Walnut

Vûrv Design, makers of extraordinary pet furniture and accessories, recently announced the addition of a new veneer: American Black Walnut.  They have fallen in love with this veneer because of its gorgeous and varied grain, its North American origins, and its iconic modern look when paired with an exposed plywood edge.  And frankly, so have we!

Not only are we smitten with this new finish, but the Vancouver-based studio is not too shabby either.  By now, Vûrv Design may not need introduction, but to those who have yet to discover them, here is just a sample of some of their other gorgeous pieces.
