Canadian style is simple... sometimes modest... with a splash of bold colour. There's a longing for nature expressed through softness and texture. Canadian style is welcoming. Canadian style keeps the cold out and the friends in.

Happy birthday Modern Karibou!
Canadian design to me is all about simple, raw materials, clean lines and good craftsmanship. Bringing nature inside the home. Oh and the love of wood!

Canadian style, has always, and still is, shaped by nature. Where Northrop Frye once talked of a Canadian identity/ aesthetic forged through the fear of our hostile environment, today's art and design still evolves as inextricably linked to our landscape, although now, we pay homage to and revere it, rather than work in opposition to it.
I look around my own living room now....as a west coast wind rips through the trees outside. The green colour of my wall, dubbed "Stanley Park" on the paint chip, mirrors the swaying ferns in the yard. A side table adjacent to my sofa was rough cut from a large Arbutus tree that fell on our property on Pender Island. Our table, lovingly made by my husband from recycled old barn boards from the Kootenays sits prominently in the room, like a wise elder. And as the Vancouver rain pelts down, I think of the cedar deck outside; its timeless and heart stopping beauty, its humble simplicity, its incredible durability in the face of hardship.
This simple vignette, to me, is the essence of Canadian style.

Since I live on the west coast, Canadian style to me is about the elements that surround us! Nature, Ocean, Trees, Snow, Mountains, Rain...I love interiors that bring the outside in! while keeping designs classic, contemporary and timeless!

Canadian style is an eclectic mix of varying styles and influences just like it's cultural mosaic make-up.

Canadian style is rural mixed with urban; nature mixed with digital, wood mixed with steel.
Happy Anniversary!

I have traveled the world and never quite feel at home until I'm back on the Canadian prairies. Canadian style, like its vast prairie land, is spacious and open, however, cozy and warm.
As pioneers we continue to explore our land and seek inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds us. It is through the continual rediscovery of our organic world that Canadian style evolves.

Beautiful, natural design from an artist who understands the meaning of winter, and of warming up inside!

Canadian style is eclectic. Its diamonds, glitter, flannel, plaid. It's respecting and embracing our natural resources bringing indoors out and outdoors in. It's relishing our hot bright summers and cold sparkling winters and integrating elements in our design.
