We love our moms, and seeing as Mother's Day is just around the corner, we've put our thinking caps on early this year so we're not stuck buying some rinky-dink bouquet of semi-wilted flowers from a dude on some street corner.
If your mothers are like ours, they likely already have everything they need, which makes this task all the more daunting. The question to ask here should probably be: "What does she like?" rather than: "What does she need?"
Since there isn't one universal, awesome gift to fit all mothers, let's break down to the different types of moms out there, and fit the gifts to the mom-types. Ready? Go!
The Artsy Mom:
- an iPod filled with her favourite songs
- a DVD of her favourite film
- tickets to the theater/ballet/concert (you get bonus points if you go with her)
- drawing/singing/dance/photography/music lessons
- a portrait or print like this beautiful one from BINTH:
The Foodie Mom:
- specialty cooking lessons
- a gift certificate to her favourite restaurant
- a good set of knives/pots/wine glasses
- a cute salt & paper shaker like this one from Amenity:
The Earth Mother:
- yoga classes/mat/DVD
- a massage
- a charitable donation on her behalf
- a self-discovery workshop
- a rain collector like this one from RC-1:
The Puttering Queen/Homebody Mom:
- a popcorn machine (for movie nights)
- a DVD of her favourite TV series
- a board game
- a nifty magazine rack like this one from OFFI:
Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas out there!
