A few weeks ago, Lise posted a blog entry about my new, home-based hair studio, Chez Snips, located in the Mile End neighbourhood of Montreal. Well, I'm very happy to report that Chez Snips is finally open for business. Hourray!
The last few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind filled with moving boxes, a ridiculous amount of paint cans, rollers, brushes, cleaning supplies, too many trips to Ikea and Canadian Tire, lots of help from friends and family, and lots and lots of laughs.
It's a beautiful space so it's not particularly hard to make it look good. The previous tenant had brought more of a lived-in/homey feel to it but I was looking to make a bit more fresh, clean and bright.
Since it's such a big space, with big walls, I wanted there to be some consistency throughout. The major pieces of hair-related furniture in the studio were remaining the same (the mirror, the cutting chair, the bonnet chair) so the changes were made to the little details. I was also working with a small budget so I had to be crafty.
The chairs in the waiting area were purchased on Craigslist for $50 each and the table is from an antique shop here in Montreal. It was $95.
I found this old chalkboard in the garbage.
The curtains were changed and the shelves got painted white...
... as did the sink table. It never cease to amaze me what a little paint can do!
This is a $5 piece of wrapping paper in a $30 Ikea frame.
Fresh flowers make everything lovelier.
It's a work in progress and I'm sure that I'll continue to make changes as I get to know the space better but, so far, I've gotta say that I'm pretty stinkin' jazzed about it!
Pay much more attention to the current social events and have your own idea to change these unhealthy ways and customs.
