I've had this blank wall above my headboard for the better part of three years now. The only thing I did to it was to paint it a very dark charcoal grey. I've never been so undecisive about the mood I've wanted to set in a space.
The new Marimekko Murals might just be the answer! They are phenomenal!
At a fraction of the cost of a large-scale contemporary piece of art, a mural will be easy to replace or move to another room, once I'm in the mood for a change. It's a no brainer!
A simple black & white mural such as their HETKIA/MOMENT is quite alluring to me:
Although, the very vibrant SIIRTOLAPUUTARHA could also look amazing in an otherwise monochromatic space. As a bonus, it can be placed vertically or horizontally on the wall:
Here are a couple more that I'm eyeying and that would look amazing in any space, not just the bedroom:
French American's designs and patterns — inspired by the past and infused with a twenty-first-century sensibility — are smart, bold and brazen. They are traditionally based with a contemporary twist and are the results of constant experimentation in progressive design. Think a 'mad lab' of twisted traditional wallpaper creativity. As in any laboratory, French American tirelessly refines and redefines their formulas allowing for a prolific and constantly evolving pattern and material selection. They consistently provide the highest quality product while maintaining an eco-friendly manufacturing practice.
If you were looking for a way to liven up a room, I think you've just found it!
We're very pleased to announce that Aimée Wilder wall coverings are now available on Modern Karibou!

Joy is what comes to mind when I think of Marimekko designs.
Now available on Modern Karibou, their wall coverings are like wall candy with their colourful and playful patterns. True to the Scandinavian tradition of fresh and bold graphics, what better way to introduce Spring into your home than to cover a wall or three with Marimekko wallpaper?
To illustrate my point, here are samples of some of my favourite patterns.
Kids have so much stuff these days, it’s often challenging (even stressful sometimes) to find them a gift that won’t end up in the bottom of a toy bin after 10 minutes of play, never to be seen again.
Stacey, a Modern Karibou customer, had the perfect gift idea recently. She and her husband were about to celebrate their daughter’s first birthday and they wanted something special to commemorate the event. She looked at different art prints but as soon as she saw it, she fell in love with Cici Art Factory’s lotsa o birdies .
What a stroke of genius to have an original piece made by a Canadian artist! Not only would it be cherished for many years, she would be initiating her child to art at an early age.
Stacey wanted to have some of the features in the piece customized to make it more personal and Liz Clay (Cici Art Factory) accepted without hesitation, even making a few suggestions here and there. It was the beginning of an exciting process.
The artist was gracious enough to send photos at every stage, in case modifications were required along the way. Below are some images that follow this process.
The first step is the penwork...
followed by the colours. Liz usually uses four different pinks in the regular lotsa o birdies series, but given the size of this piece (30'' x 30''), she decided to use 8 different colours to give it some interest, in chunky and thick paint to give the birds dimension.
In the original series, Liz has some off-white birdies mixed in with the pink ones, but she offered the option of doing them in a charcoal and grey instead (see sample below).
Ultimately, Stacey (the customer) prefered keeping the cream birdies. She also asked for red and green accents, in addition to the original pinks.Liz was happy to oblige and was able to beautifully integrate these two new colours. The red was used for additional birdies and the light green became leaves that she interspersed with the birds (which don’t appear in the original art work).
A beautiful custom piece slowly emerged and the finished art work was absolutely stunning!

There’s nothing I like more than seeing how people decorate their homes, especially when they have amazing taste.
Karen, a Modern Karibou customer, recently had ferm LIVING wallpaper (Family Tree No. 126) installed in her new powder room and was gracious enough to send us a few photos. She says she loves the effect of the wallpaper with the view of the forest outside, which must look spectacular in Alberta at this time of year.
If you’re curious but still hesitant about trying out wallpaper in your home, a powder room is a great place to start. No powder room? Try it on a feature wall in the bedroom as a backdrop to an otherwise safe scheme. It will add an instant touch of drama and loads of personality!
Imagine the potential for a nursery, a child's bedroom or playroom, a home office, or any other room for that matter. Create an enchanted forest, a colourful cityscape, or wonderous underwater world. The sheer number of prints available, in as many colours that can be mixed and matched, makes for endless possibilities.
The beauty of Avalisa’s stretched wall art lies in its simplicity.
